Head of Communication

Norut is sending a delegation to Europe’s largest oil exhibition in Stavanger.

ONS (Offshore Northern Seas 2014) takes place in the Rogaland city from August 24-27. The biennial oil and energy exhibition attracts around 60,000 visitors from more than 100 countries.

“Norut is a national research group based in Northern Norway. Consequently, as a key supplier of knowledge, it’s important that we make our contribution when it comes to promoting our region in a way in which Northern Norway is profiling itself as a united North Norwegian community,” says Head of Communication at Norut, Skjalg Fjellheim.

“ONS is the largest oil exhibition in Europe, and it provides a good opportunity to highlight our organisation and meet potential clients both nationally and internationally. The fact that the oil and gas activities have moved northward makes ONS a relevant arena for Norut as a research and innovation company.”

He says Norut wishes to attend meeting places that relate to research, innovation and development in the High North.

Norut’s mission is to contribute to sustainable growth in the High North through applied technology and social science research and innovation.

Research in the north

Fjellheim will participate at ONS 2014 along with several others from the Norut Group: Målfrid Baik (Managing Director of Norut Alta), Stig Karlstad (Senior Research Scientist at Norut Alta), Kristin Bøckman (Senior Business Developer at Norinnova) and Ivan C. Burkow (CEO/Managing Director of the Norut Group).

Burkow and the CEO of Sintef, Unni Steinsmo, will open a seminar about “Research in the north” under the auspices of Xplore North, which is the name of the joint profiling of the North Norwegian supplier industry, research institutes and other institutions during ONS.

“The Norut Group is one of the pillars in the job of creating the Northern Norway of the future. Consequently, it’s natural to invite Ivan Burkow to present his perspectives for the future together with Unni Steinsmo from Sintef,” says Geir Seljeseth, a member of the Xplore North steering committee.

Målfrid Baik from Norut Alta also emphasizes the importance of having a presence at ONS:

“A knowledge-based utilization of resources will be essential in order for business and industry to realize the enormous potential for value creation in the north in an optimal manner. This deals with quality and security of supply as well as about using knowledge of local and regional conditions,” says Baik.

“Our strength is our diversity. Our clients come from various industries in both the public and private sectors. Consequently, we see the importance of being present at ONS as a market for industry and development in the north.”

Xplore North

Northern Norway as a whole has taken steps to show muscle during this year’s oil and energy exhibition. The region is profiling itself through a joint stand covering 370 m² under the Xplore North brand. The stand is a joint effort between North Norwegian business and industry and the three North Norwegian county councils. The objective is to show the possibilities, capacity and not least the expertise and knowledge that exist in Northern Norway and the High North.
