Norut’s task in the EU FP 7 project NorthState was to develop land cover remote sensing products based on Sentinel-1 C-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and provide validation data from remote piloted aerial systems (RPAS).

In this terrestrial flagship extension of the project, we apply the developed remote sensing methods on Troms Fylke in order to provide such SAR based land cover products to Fram Centre partners and other stakeholders, to enhance studies of climate variability on vegetation and carbon uptake, landscapes and other societal issues. Kartverket is planning a new aerial imagery campaign in 2017 and will provide validation data in addition to some small time specific RPAS campaigns and Sentinel-2 optical data.
