More than 700 scientists, business people and politicians are gathering at Arctic Frontiers in Tromsø from January 24-29. Norut is one of the conference organisers.

The combination of increasing human activity in the Arctic and climate change will impact on the people living there. “Living in the High North” is the main theme of the conference Arctic Frontiers 2010 in Tromsø.

During the week-long Arctic Frontiers, more than 600 representatives from the research sector, business sector, public administration, politicians and other interested parties will gather to share research findings and discuss problems facing the Arctic.

Sustainable communities in the north

The policy section of the conference takes place on January 25-26, with the focus this year on Arctic strategies and sustainable communities in the north.

Sustainable communities in the north is also a theme for the first social science section in the history of Arctic Frontiers, which stretches over several days. Norut has played a major role in the preparation of this section.

Other themes of the science session are Ice and climate, Marine biodiversity, Marine resource management and E-learning. Several Norut researchers are among the keynote speakers during the science section. This section of the conference runs from January 27-29.

This is the fourth time the conference has been held in Tromsø.
