Oil companies and the supplier industry are stamping their mark in earnest in the High North. Norut documents and analyzes the social consequences of the developments closely. Unmanned aircraft systems can play a significant role in environmental monitoring and emergency response. Norut has knowledge of both the operational challenges in the north, ice-related challenges on structures, the consequences of oil spills, oil-in-ice, natural gas as an energy source for local industry and the properties of various oil sorbents. Our competence is in demand from both oil companies and public authorities.
Narvik is increasing activity in cold climate technology and oil-in-ice research. Norut has appointed five new specialists to keep pace with the tasks.
The Arctic Centre for Unmanned Aircraft was opened at Svalbard 14th April.
