NORCE is becoming even stronger as Norut merges with the new research institute.

NORCE is further strengthening its position as Norut becomes part of the group.

“With this expansion, we will have a more national role and greater activity in the High North,” says the Chair of the Board of NORCE, Hans Olav Lindal.

Norut has expertise in the Arctic and engages in research activities in numerous fields, including satellite remote sensing, drone technology, ICT, energy, environment, biotechnology, business development, sustainable Arctic communities and indigenous peoples.

“We are very pleased that this merger is now a reality. We have had exciting and rewarding conversations with Norut throughout this process. This merger strengthens NORCE both nationally and internationally within research and innovation,” says Lindal.

The transfer of ownership of the undertaking will occur in late December or early January. Norut has around 70 employees and offices in Tromsø, Alta and Bodø, among other places.

“We believe such a merger is necessary to further develop the expertise at Norut, and to strengthen the national and international competitiveness within applied research,” says the Chair of the Board of Norut, Morten Hald.

Norut has recently sold its shares in Norut Narvik and Norinnova Technology Transfer.

“We look forward to collaborating closely with Norut Narvik and Norinnova in the years ahead,” says Hald.

NORCE is a new research group that combines Uni Research, IRIS, Agderforskning, Christian Michelsen Research, Teknova and now Norut. The head office is in Bergen. The research group has around 900 employees and an annual turnover of more than NOK 1 billion.

“We will now begin the process of creating an integrated NORCE with a joint organisation and good professional collaboration. We are looking forward to this and we believe that NORCE has further strengthened its position by getting Norut on board,” says the CEO of NORCE, Elisabeth M. Støle.
